At RIDGWAY, we are back to full strength with all employees back working and fleet utilisation strong as the construction industry gets into full swing.

We remained open during lockdown supplying plant hire for construction sites and other essential services throughout the UK with a reduced staff and are pleased to have everyone back as we have seen demand for both our PLANT HIRE and USED PLANT SALES grow throughout July.

With the industry still gaining ground lost to the lockdown, construction activity in July grew at its fastest rate for nearly five years and looks to grow even more with new changes to planning announced by Government today.

Reform of Planning System Announced by the Government

Robert Jenrick, the Housing Secretary, revealed today, a complete overhaul of the country’s planning system to deliver much needed homes across the UK. New developments will be built quicker by ensuring local housing plans are developed and agreed in 30 months – down from the current 7 years.

Brian Berry, Chief Executive, FMB, says: “Local, small builders are ready and waiting to play their part in delivering the homes, jobs, and growth we need if we are to ‘build, build, build’ our way to recovery”.

Boost for Construction

The changes will be a major boost to the construction industry and allow house builders and the supply chains to play a vital role in Britain’s recovery and growth helping support jobs and training opportunities for apprentices.

This is welcome news to businesses as they continue to recover across the UK. After an uncertain few months, many companies are beginning to feel more confident as industry resumes.

Builders’ merchant group Travis Perkins have stated levels of trading almost back to 2019 levels and has seen business continue to recover well with good demand.
