These Excavators, ranging from 20 Ton up to 50 Ton, were used in a project involving the installation of cables on the beach between Prestatyn and Rhyl
The work is in preparation for the installation of the offshore substation, the buried sea cables will connect the turbines to the national grid connection point at the substation in St Asaph.
This is just a stage in the multi-million pound project for the construction of 32 more turbines, quadrupling the current size of the wind farm. Known as North Hoyle, the windfarm is located 4-5 miles off the North Wales coast between Prestatyn and Rhyl, it was built in 2003 and declared as fully operational in 2004. The site was chosen for an offshore windfarm because of the ideal conditions including low water depths, good wind resource and suitable seabed conditions.
