Ridgway Rentals receives the first 13 ton soil compaction rollers in the country
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing modern equipment for our customers and investing in new technology, we have bought the first 13 ton soil compaction rollers to roll out of the JCB factory. These machines have now arrived in our yard and are the only machines available for hire in the UK.
New to the Fleet – JCB VM118D Roller Available for Hire
Ridgway Rentals are pleased to add the JCB VM118D single drum vibratory roller to our expanding fleet. Designed for productivity, reliability and operator comfort, the VM118D is ideal for a wide range of compaction applications including road construction, site preparation, earthworks and groundwork projects.
With its powerful engine and high compaction performance, the VM118D delivers excellent results on granular soils and aggregates. The machine’s robust design ensures dependable performance even in demanding site conditions, helping contractors achieve consistent, high-quality compaction.

There are 2 variants of the JCB VM118D available for hire. This includes the smooth roller or pad foot roller.
Smooth Drum Roller
Smooth drum rollers are heavy-duty compaction machines featuring a cylindrical steel drum, designed to level and compact granular materials like sand, gravel, asphalt, and mixed soils. They use weight and vibration to remove air gaps, ensuring stable foundations for roads and car parks.
Pad Foot Roller
A padfoot roller is a specialised compaction drum with protruding, rectangular “feet” designed to knead and compact cohesive soils like clay, silt, and damp earth. Ideal for heavy-duty earthworks, trenching, and foundations, they break up soil clumps and remove air pockets to create a solid, deep-compacted base.
